32Jonathan Magallanes grew up in a family that loved food and entertaining people with elaborate meals. This self-taught chef preferred to spend his time in the kitchen with an insatiable curiosity to discover new flavors and techniques that showcase classic, simple, fresh Mexican cuisine. Magallenes graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2001, and spent the next two years traveling in Mexico City, Europe and Africa to further develop his style of food. In 2003, Magallanes returned home to Memphis to open Las Tortugas Deli Mexicana with his father, Pepe.
